APPROVAL OF A MOBILE DRONE TRUNK DEPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR CITY OF COMMERCE SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT OFFICERS
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1. Approve the implementation of a mobile, trunk-deployed Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program for use by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Special Assignment Officer (SAO) team assigned to the City of Commerce; and
2. Authorize the purchase of the Falcon Intelligent Surveillance Technologies (FIST) four-aircraft equipment package and Hierax Sentinel platform subscription at a first-year cost of $84,900, with an annual subscription cost of $29,500 thereafter; and
3. Authorize the City to cover the one-time FAA Part 107 testing cost of $175 per person for six (6) Commerce SAO deputies and one (1) sergeant, for a total estimated testing cost of $1,225; and
4. Authorize the City Manager to finalize program implementation, procurement, training, policies, and operational requirements in coordination with LASD.
