Title

Declaration of Fiscal Emergency; Calling a Special Municipal Election; Consolidation with Los Angeles County; Introduction of an Ordinance Increasing the Existing Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax by ¼-Cent, for a Total of a One-Cent Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax

Recommendation

The City Council will consider:

 

1.                     Adopting a Resolution declaring a Fiscal Emergency pursuant to Article XIII C, Section 2(b) of the California Constitution;

 

2.                     Adopting a Resolution calling and giving notice of a Special Municipal Election to be consolidated with the June 2, 2026 Statewide Primary Election conducted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for the purpose of submitting to the voters a proposed ¼-cent (0.25%) Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax measure; and

 

3.                     Introducing for first reading an Ordinance amending Commerce Municipal Code Chapter 3.09 to increase the existing ¾ cent Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax by ¼-cent, for a total of a one cent (1%) Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax subject to majority voter approval.
